Dj Professor Stone

From “Stick & Stones” Reggae Slot on Fresno’s KFSR 90.7FM in 1989, to Reggae Concert Promoter with Wendy Russell Productions in 1990, it was decided unanimously that Stone needed to be on the Decks with his knowledge and personal style as DJ Professor Stone.

With his favorite influences at that time, Mad Professor and Stone Love, DJ Professor Stone was born. Running One of Fresno’s Longest Reggae Residencies “Rebel Dance”, you would find DJ Professor Stone in infamous Venues such as Bogeys, Nite Flite, Express, The Wild Blue & Soho. In 1997, a romantic encounter with a professional Ballet Dancer, meton a Seattle Tour, influenced Stone to move to Nashville Tennessee to pursue her Professional career. In just months, Stone would be kicking off a career of his own, opening up for acts like Michael Rose @ Tommy Guns and then bringing his weekly “Rebel Dance” to the Lava Lounge where he teamed up with Tennessee’s Local Caribbean Radio Host “Uncle L”.

Career moves brought Stone to Portland, Oregon in late 1999 where he joined DJ Unity, G Wax, Short Change and several others and learned that Portland was where he would put his Roots down for a bit. After 2 or so years of feeling out the beat in the PDX Scene, Stone Linked up with Manoj Mathews (PDX Electronic Music Guru) & Stephen Brenbrook (Zion’s Gate Records, Seattle) helping Stone open his own Zion’s Gate Records in Portland, OR. Through this, many other great reputable projects were born and hosted by the Zion’s Gate Crew for many years until physical DJ specialty shops became obsolete via internet. From this, it was time to make more moves and, shortly after, Stone was booking, as well as DJing, all over the West Coast pursuing his own personal career and helping kick off and spearhead many others as well. Back in the day you could catch one of Stone’s sets at a Mix Master Mike Show, or Prince Paul, Swamp, Z Trip show! But Stone’s Diversity and Love for this game would have him opening up for Rob Paine, Jay Jay Hernandez or Garth on one side of town, one night, and then Burning Spear, Mikey Dread or EEk A Mouse, at another! It was true; Stone was consistent in bringing forth uplifting and funky refreshing creative sets in any genre! Reggae, House, Hip- Hop is where it all began, and now you can listen to the evolution of all of his experiences and diversity right here, whenever you want, for free!
